Whitecourt gears up to celebrate its seniors

June 1 to 6 is Seniors’ Week in Whitecourt, so come on out for a week of fun, food, and festivities so you can show your appreciation to the people who made Whitecourt what it is today.

The week will kick off at 9:30 a.m. on Monday June 1 at the Seniors Circle in Whitecourt with a variety show involving Whitecourt yourth. A catered lunch will follow from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and the afternoon will be filled with hurrying and sweeping as the Seniors Circle turns into a forum for floor curling from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Tuesday June 2 will feature a Country Fair Baking Contest between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. at the Seniors Circle. Winners of the contest will be announced between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Seniors Circle catered Lunch. A crokinole tournament will follow from 1:15 to 3:30 p.m., and the day will wrap up with Bingo from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Seniors Circle.

Wednesday, June 3 will feature the Tim Hortons & Servus Credit Union Coffee Break at the Tim Hortons, Hilltop location in Whitecourt from 10 to 11:30 a.m. A Strawberry Tea will take place, free of charge, at Spruceview Lodge in Whitecourt. Card Bingo, $1 per person, will follow at Spruceview Lodge starting at 6:30 p.m.

Thursday, June 4 promises a day of laughter hosted by Woodlands County at the Blue Ridge Community Hall. The day will kick off with HOJA a cappella comedy. A catered lunch will follow, and the day will wrap up with Ol’Ugly, a country comedian. Transportation to and from the event will be provided. Friday night will feature a catered dinner from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Seniors Circle followed by the musical styling of the band, Crossfire. The local four-member band plays classic and new country. Doors will open at 5 p.m., and the band will hit the stage between 7:30 and 10:30 p.m.

Seniors’ Week will conclude on Saturday, June 6 with the Rotary Club barbecue held from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Seniors Circle. The barbecue will be followed by a horseshoe tournament from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Seniors’ Week promises to be a fun and food-filled week in celebration of the seniors who built and continue to shape our community to this day. Come on out to show your appreciation for all they’ve done and continue to do. Celebrate the seniors in your life this Seniors’ Week.
