The first-ever all-female Edson U9 Rouge Tournament is on March 23-24. Eight female players (U9/U11) from Whitecourt Minor Hockey (WMH) and three from Fox Creek make up Whitecourt’s team. The team’s head coach is Teagen Halbert, a Whitecourt U18 student coach who plays for the Morinville Phillies. It’s Halbert’s first time with coaching duties. Jennifer Brown, who brought together the players for the team, said the girls recently practiced (pictured) and did a great job. “The girls were all pumped. Most met for the first time. We are so happy to have the Fox Creek girls join the squad to fill a team and make this happen.” Brown said Jason Harper from Flint hooked the girls up with new jerseys and socks. “It made them all feel like they were a part of something special.” One of the players, Quinn Wardley (U11), is playing in net for the first time, and Brown said she did a fantastic job. The girls played against WMH Coach Brandon Anderson’s U9 team for their first practice as a newly formed team. “He is wonderful for helping put the scrimmage together to help the girls prepare,” said Brown. Best of luck with the upcoming tournament, girls!
