PME Inc. has been awarded a contract to complete the Water Systems Upgrades Contract “A” project. The project, funded in part by the Building Canada Small Communities Fund, includes installation of underground components and modifications to the Hilltop Reservoir and West End Booster Station. This project is part of a larger initiative to enhance capacity and flow within the municipal water system. This portion of the project will create 26 jobs and involve business with five local subcontractors/suppliers. The estimated money to be spent in our community during construction is $275,000, including expenditures at local service businesses (hotels, restaurants, etc.).
The Whitecourt Fire Department presented its 2019 response statistics to Council as information at the September 14, 2020 meeting. In 2019, the Department responded to 311 calls, up from 299 calls responded to in 2018.
2020 Whitecourt Free Clean Up Week, held the last week of August, was a success. Almost 650 residents took advantage of the initiative and disposed of 137,965 kilograms of waste at the Whitecourt Regional Landfill. The initiative was created in lieu of the annual Spring Clean Up program which was cancelled earlier in the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Town of Whitecourt has been invoiced $43,201.21 for repairs to the overhead light and cantilever of the railway crossing warning system at Dahl Drive resulting from a hit and run incident on December 28, 2019. Whitecourt has made a claim for consideration under its insurance and is awaiting a response.
Councillor Derek Schlosser has been appointed Acting Deputy Mayor until October 18, 2021.
