Whitecourt Town Council update

Whitecourt has launched a new online Geographic Information System (GIS). The online platform allows residents to view municipal facilities and infrastructure, as well as various types of property information such as addresses, zoning, lot lines, and assessment. This tool is interactive, and allows users to view aerial imagery, measure distances, and create print- able maps.  To access the online tool, visit www.whitecourt.ca/MuniSight.

As announced by MLA Martin Long at the September 28 Regular Meeting, the Town of Whitecourt has been awarded

$1,038,247 under the Municipal Operating Support Transfer grant. The grant is funded by the provincial and federal governments to support municipalities which have experienced significant operating impacts due to the COVID-19 pan- demic. Whitecourt will be signing a memorandum of agreement with the province to use funds for eligible expenditures and operating losses incurred between April 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021.

Whitecourt received a letter from the Whitecourt & District Chamber of Commerce stating that it is conducting a re- gionalization study. The study will offer insight into regionalization opportunities that would benefit the local business community. Council agreed to provide information and participate in the study, which is being conducted by Nichols Applied Management Inc., and is expected to be complete by the end of 2020.

In light of COVID-19, Whitecourt has cancelled its annual Council Committee Recognition Event.  The event is typically

hosted in the fall to recognize those who serve on municipal boards and committees.

A Special Meeting of Council has been scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on December 16, 2020 to discuss the 2021 Budget.
