The Town of Whitecourt is proud to announce that Councillor Bill McAree has received the 2020 Distinguished Ser- vice Award from the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA). The award recognizes local leaders who have demonstrated innovation and distinction in their respective municipalities.
“For me, the honour is not in the award; the honour is the people of Whitecourt trusting me over the years to always do what’s best for our community, to be honest, to have integrity and to listen,” stated Councillor Bill McAree.
Councillor Bill McAree was first elected to Whitecourt Town Council in 1994. Over his years of service, Councillor McAree has been a strong advocate of developing social programs, enhancing quality of life, prioritizing community safety services, and building a progressive, inclusive community.
“I am so pleased to see Councillor McAree recognized for his dedication and commitment to local government,” said Whitecourt Mayor Maryann Chichak. “His thoughtful, educated and compassionate perspective is valued on Council and throughout the community, and for this he is more than deserving of the Distinguished Service Award.”
The award is typically presented to recipients at AUMA’s annual conference; however, due to COVID-19 health restrictions, the 2020 conference will be held virtually. Whitecourt Town Council will be recognizing and honouring Councillor McAree at a future Council Meeting.
