The Whitecourt Wolverines must not have felt the nasty wind chill outside on Sunday, December 11 when they took on the Lloydminster Bobcats at the Scott Safety Centre because they were fired up and hot. The local boys played hard, controlled the play from end to end and kept the Bobcats from catching up at any point in the game.
The first period saw the Wolverines jump out 3-0 with goals from #24 Ben Evanish, #16 Eric Krienke, and #26 Jaedon Leslie. The Bobcats managed to get one past #1 Sam-Jaxxon Visscher, recently acquired from the Nipawin Hawks from the SJHL, and got themselves on the board with five minutes left in the period.
The second saw the teams exchange goals with each getting one in. Justin Young scored for the Wolverines making it 4-2 after 40 minutes of play.
The final 20 minutes was very eventful for the Wolverines who, just like in the first period, managed to bang away three goals. #29 Liam Motley, #17 Rob Johnson, and #16 Eric Krienke (with his second of the game), pushed the team well past the visitors. Though the Bobcats managed to get one final goal in the third, it wasn’t enough to topple the Wolverines as they took the contest 7-4.
The next match-up for the Wolverines will be at home on Friday, December 16 against the Sherwood Park Crusaders at 7:30 p.m.
