Woodlands County Council discussed the following items at their regular meeting of Council:

With recent vacancies on the following committees, Council made the noted appointments to ensure Woodlands County is represented on each committee:

  • Human Resources Committee: Councillor Rennie
  • Joint Liaison Committee: Councillor Kusch
  • Whitecourt Protective Services Committee: Councillor Prestidge
  • Lac Ste. Anne Foundation: Councillor Rennie

Woodlands County is providing a letter of support to the Community Lunch Box Society for its grant application to the Community Initiatives Program. The Community Lunch Box Society continues to provide a valuable service to our region for students, seniors, and adults with disabilities. Their programs, including providing meals, nutrition programs, Apples 4 Kids, Cooking Club, as well as creating opportunities for meaningful employment through bottle recycling, contribute to the well-being of our community.

In accordance with the Municipal Government Act, each municipality must prepare annual financial statements in accordance with Canadian generally accepted accounting principles. Jeff Alliston, Metrix Group Solutions, attended Council’s meeting to review and present the 2019 Audit Findings report and the 2019 Audited Financial Statements. Council accepted the audit documents which are available on the County’s website.

As the wet weather continues to create poor road conditions throughout Woodlands County and neighbouring municipalities, Council and members of Administration will be taking a road tour to see the current roadways’ condition. The road tour will assist the decision-making process as plans are made to repair the various culvert failures and erosion issues. The road tour is expected to take place on June 17, 2020.

Council has moved its scheduled meeting on Tuesday, June 16 to Wednesday, June 24, to accommodate the reports anticipated back for roadway repairs. The meeting will be streamed live on Woodlands County’s YouTube channel.

The municipal offices remain closed to the public; however, Administration is available during regular business hours, Monday to Friday, 8:15 am to 4:30 pm at 780-778-8400 or toll-free 1-888-870-6315.
