Central students receive awards

celebrating-new-students-2On Friday morning, Central School staff and students, donning their brand new school shirts, closed out September with their first Recognition Awards Assembly of the year.  Recognizing students for contributions in class and how they interact with fellow students, the awards give the children the opportunity to cheer each other on.

At the end of each month, a handful of students from each grade are called forward to receive an award, detailing to everyone why they were selected.  Being a good friend, doing good work, acing a test, helping others, always smiling, having a great character, being enthusiastic in class, thoughtfulness and displaying “Eagle Behaviours” are just some of the reasons students get publicly recognized.  As children were called to the front of the gym one by one, to receive their awards, high fives were given by classmates along with boisterous cheers.   Brand new students were also given an especially loud cheer as a nice big welcome.

New this year, Central School staff have started the Resiliency Project with each month having a theme related to being resilient.  September’s theme was Optimism.  Students took part in countless projects during the month and were reminded that even though there are bad days, we can always find something good.  During the assembly, students watched a Kid President video which laid out 25 reasons to be thankful.  From singing to dancing, delicious food, clouds that look like stuff, birthday cake and forgiveness, the message was clear.  Children were then asked to write down their own reasons to be thankful.  The Resiliency Project has already had such a positive effect on the children at Central School and will certainly continue to do so throughout the year.
