Alliance Pipeline Aquatic Centre to be closed November 17 to December 5

Pool closure

By Laura Bohnert

The Alliance Pipeline Aquatic Centre is scheduled to be closed between November 17 and December 5, 2014 for maintenance reasons.

According to Kelsey Parnell, the aquatic co-ordinator for the centre which features a 25-metre main pool, a 34-person hot tub, a steam room, and a zero-depth entry leisure play pool with Infastech Water Play Park. The closure is largely invested in cleaning up the appearance of the centre.

Maintenance will include general aesthetic updates (including the installation of new signs, new tiles, the replacement of attachments and lights, and repainting) as well as the general maintenance of the water features. The “Lazy River” water feature will be renovated and the Whitecourt Transport Water Slide will be waxed.

“The whirlpool,” Parnell assures us, “will be up and running in no time.”

One of the most common frustrations among pool-goers, according to Parnell, is the fact that the whirlpool always seems to be down. Part of this closure will be invested in researching the cause of its malfunctioning as well as providing the appropriate repairs so it will be up and running in time for the centre’s reopening.

In the meantime, other pools will remain open to support lessons, and families can consult the community spectrum for suggestions of alternative activities to supplement the centre’s closure. Whitecourt promotes many winter activities for individuals and families, as well as child and youth programs and fitness activities.

Anyone requiring more information regarding the details of the pool’s closure can stop in at the Allan & Jean Millar Centre or contact Kelsey directly at 780-706-2424 extension 410.
