Whitecourt’s Ride for Mom Alzheimer’s Fundraiser celebrated its 11th year on Saturday with a record-breaking amount of riders. There were worries the economic downturn would mean less bikers but the beautiful sunshine brought out 80+ riders for the ride from Whitecourt to the Rochfort Bride Trading Post. The event started with eight friends coming together after a terrible loss. Terry Wise tragically lost his mother to Alzheimers and created the ride to honour her memory. They raised $3,500 the first year and have now raised $120,000 to date becoming the longest-running, highest-grossing independent fundraiser for Alzheimers. Al’s Sports Quest graciously gives up its parking lot each year and the crew is extremely grateful for it. Terry said, “We called it Ride for Mom but its for anyone who has anything to do with this terrible disease… to remember your loved ones.”
