On November 6, the Athabasca Voyageur Canoe Brigade traveled down the Athabasca River from Jasper to Fort Assiniboine. Four stops were made along the way to present each of the local Heritage Societies with cheques, Whitecourt being one of them. Chair-person for the brigade, Bernie Kreiner, said, “Our group of volunteers organized the brigade involving 15 voyager canoes and over 180 paddlers. Our executive decided that any surplus funds would be donated equally between the four museums on the Athabasca along this route.”
John Dahl, president of the Whitecourt and District Heritage Society, was presented with the cheque. “History has always been my passion and the money will go to the preservation of our rich history,” he said. The amount of $2,800 will go towards Whitecourt’s local museum for general use.
