Each year the Town of Whitecourt offers non-profit organizations a way to earn extra money for their organizations. Pick-up Trash for Cash runs from April to the end of October. Qualifying groups must submit a written request to the town outlining how the funds will be used and the dates the group would be available to work.
The community cleanup grant is $1,000 and is awarded to a group of at least 12 volunteers after 100 hours of cleanup time.
ECHO Society members jumped at the chance to earn money and branded their group with the name Skyline. President of the Skyline Community Club Effie McGinnis said, “We have about 20 volunteers and are doing this because we like to volunteer in our community. The cleanup is just once a year but depending on what we apply for, there are other opportunities for us.”
This the fourth year Skyline Community Club has organized the cleanup in the community.
